Today we are going to talk about promoting blogs. No, not
the kind that goes from being an AVP to a SVP. Promoting, according to the
Urban Dictionary is:
OK, wrong choice in dictionary usage (though reading the
Urban Dictionary entertains me for hours on end) but a decent example. But
let’s go to Webster for his meaning:

So there are ample
ways to promote your blog to get the readership you are looking for. I chose to
blog as a means of keeping a record and holding myself accountable. But once I
started getting followers, I loved that fact that people liked what I was
saying. And then I think I started writing more meaningful things. The
more followers: the more I write.
Ways to promote your
blog:
Giveaways!
These are
fantastic to drive people to your blog. I always make sure that when I host,
one of the stipulations in entering is posting my giveaway on your blog. This
drives up your stats and in turn, new followers. I then scroll through
someone’s followers and start following myself. It’s the circle of life. At
least that’s what Simba said.

Blog Buttons
These
are great little tools that people can post on their website to say they follow
you. And I think it dresses up a blog. There are numerous tutorials on how to
make these. My favorite is at Musings of a Housewife.
Jon over at 2 Slow 4 Boston went above and beyond by creating this
excellent source for finding other running blogs and promoting yours. The only
drawback at the moment is he hasn’t figured out how to include Wordpress blogs.
Baby steps, Jon, Baby steps. But all in all it is a great little tool to find
running bloggers. I looked up bloggers by State to see if there was anyone in
my area that I wasn’t following (I mean this literally and figuratively). I
would love to find a local to run with…….but I’m the shy girl in the corner
dancing to my own tune (which sounds a lot like Pitbull so if you’re into Hip
Hop, get atcha girl ova herre).

Good post! And there is another way to promote and find blogs too... the new LINKY FOLLOWER software allows you to not only collect followers but to organize the blogs you follow and it keeps a database of bloggers who have joined too.
ReplyDeleteI did a post about it yesterday.
Great tips! I need to explore this Linky further! Have a great weekend!
