Monday's Workout: 3 Miles easy/Treadmill/31:21
But let me break that down even further.
Saturday I decided that I wanted to run the same road race
that happened to be my first road race ever. The Melrose Run for Women 3.5
Miler is run every year, on Mother’s Day and was the race that started this
whole love/hate relationship with running.
Luckily they had same day registration so I was all about
it. We hung in Saturday night and watched a movie before my 10pm bedtime.
I woke up Sunday to sunny skies and a forecast of 80°f. With
a 9am start, I was happy to race in my running skirt and a tank and know that
it wouldn’t be too cold or too warm.
I arrived 15 minutes before race time and did a little
pre-race jog and some stretching. Let me back this up by saying I had not run
in a few weeks due to a horrible cold that my allergies had. Yup, I was a big
snotty mess for a full week and could barely breathe so running was not an
option.
I was hoping to just run a better race then last year, but I
didn’t realize it was going to hurt so bad. My legs were bricks the entire run
and I kept saying to myself “why didn’t you stay in bed” or “It’s Mother’s Day
stupid…you should be home drinking mimosas”! I tried my hardest not to look at
Bob (my Garmin) but I did sneak a few peaks. I didn’t run hard and walked through a
water station. Boy was I glad when it was over!
I finished in 31:28, a 9:03 pace.
Last year’s results? 35:04.
I was happy to see how far I had come in one year.
Afterwards the hubby treated me to a shopping spree. I hate
shopping for myself and find it difficult to shop with over people. I had one
thing on my list and that was a new pair of flip flops. My favs were chewed to
bits by Miss Bella so I needed replacements. I wear them after every run so I
consider them running gear. Hubby dropped me of at Off Broadway Shoes and I did
my thing. I walked out with 2 new pairs and a package of Nike running socks!
How come every shopping trip I have to buy some sort of running gear? I also
was treated to some new Reebok running shorts and a hydration belt!
We ended the day on our back deck, BBQing some yummy turkey
burgers and putting back a few homemade margaritas (one the rocks, not frozen).
A perfect end to a perfect Mother’s Day!
